Product Development Story
Q1: Please tell us why you decided to create scalp care products.
The development of this product began with the idea of creating a scalp care product utilizing sudachi essential oil, which contains hesperidin, a scalp conditioner. The scalp, which cannot be moved by oneself, is an area where fatigue can easily accumulate without being noticed. Our goal was to create a product that improves blood circulation through massage and keeps the scalp soft, leading to a healthy scalp.
Q2: What were the particular points you focused on in the development of this product?
We placed importance on the comfort of using the product. For the serum, we focused on a smooth texture that can be easily spread over the entire scalp. It is non-greasy and blends well, so it can be used in the morning before styling. The scrub is designed to create a shimmering foam while massaging while retaining the graininess of the salt. We also made adjustments while checking compatibility with the scalp massage brush. The fragrance of both products was also carefully selected so that users can enjoy a peaceful time while massaging. The freshness of sudachi and rosemary is combined with the calming scent of geranium, and patchouli adds depth. The menthol gives the massage a cool and refreshing feeling, and it is suitable for use in any season.
Q3: What were some of the challenges you faced during repeated prototyping and testing, and were there any episodes that left a lasting impression?
The serum contains various plant-derived ingredients such as horseradish leaf extract and sudachi peel extract, while at the same time having a pleasant fragrance. Also, although it is not colored, the natural colors of the plant ingredients in the formula combine to create a unique hue. The scrub was too soft when it was first developed, and we repeatedly reviewed the formulation to adjust it to the ideal feel before arriving at this new formulation.
